Tab Group Janitor privacy policy
Tab Group Janitor is a Chrome extension. It closes tab groups that contain only blank or new-tab pages, after a delay you choose. This policy describes what the extension does with information. It does not send data to the developer or to any other server.
Before it starts
The extension waits until you tick “I understand and agree” and click “Start cleanup”. Until then it does not read tab addresses and it does not close anything.
What it accesses
After you agree, it reads the address of each open tab, in memory, to decide whether that tab is a new-tab page or about:blank. It also reads whether the tab is pinned, playing audio, or the active tab, so those tabs are left alone. It reads the names and colors of open tab groups, and which tabs belong to each group, so it can tell an empty group from one that still has a real page.
Addresses are not saved and are not written to the activity log. The extension does not read page contents, form data, cookies, or passwords. It does not build a browsing history.
Chrome’s install dialog says the extension can read browsing history. That is Chrome’s standard warning for the tabs permission, which the extension needs to tell a blank tab from a real page.
What it stores
Settings are saved with chrome.storage.sync on your browser: whether cleanup is on, the delay, name patterns, dry run, and that you accepted the disclosure. If Chrome Sync is on, Chrome may sync those settings through your Google account. The developer does not receive them.
An activity log of up to 100 entries is saved with chrome.storage.local. Each entry is a time, the tab group’s name, and what the extension did: close, ungroup, dry run, or an error. You can clear the log in Settings.
Countdown timestamps for groups that are currently empty are kept with chrome.storage.session and are discarded when the browser session ends.
Nothing is sold, transferred, or sent to a server run by the developer. The extension has no account, no analytics, and no advertising.
Why
The extension uses this information only to close empty tab groups, or to log what it would close when dry run is on. A group that still contains a real page, a pinned tab, or a tab playing audio is left alone.
Control
Clearing the activity log in Settings deletes the log immediately. Uninstalling the extension removes the data it stored on the device. Settings that Chrome Sync has already uploaded remain in your Google account until you clear Chrome Sync data.
Chrome Web Store User Data Policy
Use of this data follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. The information is used only to close empty tab groups, which is the extension’s single purpose. It is not used for advertising, credit, or lending, and no person reads it.
