Layouts for Mac
Layouts remembers where your windows sit and puts them back in one click. Save once at each screen size. Free, no account. An App Store listing is coming; until then, install from this page.
Install
- Open the downloaded
Layouts.dmg. - Drag Layouts into Applications.
- Open Layouts from Applications (or Spotlight). It lives in the menu bar — there is no Dock icon.
- When asked, turn on Layouts under System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility. That permission is required so Layouts can move windows.
If macOS says the app can’t be opened, Control-click Layouts in Applications, choose Open, then Open again. After the first launch, left-click the menu bar icon to restore, or right-click to save.
First layout
- Arrange your windows the way you want.
- Right-click the Layouts icon and choose Save, or press Control-Option-Command-S.
- Mess the windows up, then left-click the icon (or Control-Option-Command-R) to put them back.
Save once at each resolution you use (for example full width and half width). Layouts restores the layout that matches the current screen size. More detail: Layouts support.
Uninstall
Quit Layouts from the menu bar, then move /Applications/Layouts.app to the Trash. Saved layouts stay in the app’s Application Support folder until you delete that folder too.
